OUR GOAL
Mahani is an effort to help indigenous waxarika children from the mountain range of Jalisco (Mexico) who have cleft lip and/or palate. Acquiring any of these products, you would be helping the families of the children who suffer from this deformity. This unique and beautiful jewelry and purses are hand-crafted by the mothers of the children mentioned above.
The meaning of Mahani is to laugh. We want these young children to enjoy like like you and I do. The surgical procedure involves an important expense for these families, through your purchase you can help them in this process!

Everything started when in a small town several children where found to have these cleft palates/lips who had not received the closing surgery. Thanks to the group Operation Smile, eight indigenous children received this operation of free! The hospital and everyone involved has been giving and helping greatly.
The indigenous people make their art with tiny beads, and have started making more of it and trying to sell it to cover their traveling expenses for the surgery (it's important to mention that God has been providing every peso).
Mahani wants to help them sell their products. The constant trips to the city and the long periods of waiting times they have to spend away from home, prevent them from working in their normal activities. This generates even greater instability in their already wavering economy.
